MASSAR EGBARI “Compulsory Detour” is an Alternative Egyptian music band founded in 2005 by 4 musicians: Ayman Massoud (Keyboards), Hani El Dakkak (Guitar & Lead Vocal), Ahmed Hafez (Bass guitar, Tamer Attallah (Drums) Mahmoud Siam (Guitars) and Mohamed Nabil (Percussions).
The band chose an ironic title to resemble the society we live in today. They specifically chose this title as it explains how people are expected, or rather, dictated to behave and dress in certain manners. Both, in title and in spirit, the band pokes fun at typical social norms and trends, which is clearly reflected in their music and chosen lyrics. This sarcastic name was created since the band members felt that the society is trying to impose its power over people starting from their childhood till the day they die. This social power wants to stereotype everything including the way people think and feel, leaving no space for creation and innovationMassar Egbari presents music and songs talking about the social problems. However, Love is not their main concern although it represents a part of their songs. The band offers a new blend of Egyptian Music, mixing rock, jazz and blues with some Oriental tunes. MASSAR EGBARI is performing within the events of Dubai International Film Festival this weekend on Friday, December 17th at JBR following the screening of the Egyptian film “Microphone.” Tickets are available at the DIFF box office on the Walk, Dial-a-Ticket service at (04)3913378 or at www.dubaifilmfest.com. Tickets are priced at AED 25 for movie screenings only and AED 45 for the screening and concert. |
